Club meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm
The Hillwood Homemakers club began in 1976 and was formed by 17 ladies. From the beginning, many traditions began which included community service, outreach programs, health education, focus on family, great food and just plain fun. Some of the many community service projects consisted of helping both Huntsville Hospital and Crestwood Hospital, several area schools, St. Jude, Salvation Army and Manna House.
Health education consisted of CPR, poison control and learning about female cancers, including breast cancer. Breast cancer continues to be an annual focus today.
For fun, they have an annual Christmas party, which includes a Secret Santa exchange, and their traditional “unbirthday” party where each member brings a white elephant gift to exchange. They have had many laughs over the gifts that have been brought, including a size triple X underwear that fit 3 members. The use of a variety of plates and cups has added to the fun and the escargot dishes have turned up many times.
Hairstyles and clothes do change, but the traditions that they started back in 1976 are still going strong. Their history has been preserved in scrapbooks with photos and lots of information.
They are proud to currently have 6 members who have been with the club for 25+ years.
